MLIVE ASK THE ATTORNEY COLUMN

Q. I injured my back at work and doctors say I will never be able to walk again. What can I receive from workers’ comp?

A. You have a right to receive lifetime medical care for your injuries and two years of paid retraining assistance. Because of your inability to walk, whether you return to work or not, Michigan law also entitles you to a guaranteed 800 weeks of benefits generally based on your pre-injury wages, up to the maximum rate for 2022 that is  $1048/week. After 800 weeks, if you are still disabled and continue to suffer wage loss, these weekly benefits can continue potentially for life. Feel free to contact me for a consultation regarding your own specific situation.
